How to Add a Custom Gamemode to a Garrys Mod Server Print

Gamemodes add variety to Garry's Mod, spicing up the experience and changing the way you play. Garry's Mod supports an assortment of great gamemodes, from the famous Prop Hunt gamemode to role-play gamemodes, and much more!

Adding a Gamemode through a Steam Workshop Collection

1. Begin by creating the Steam Workshop collection. Add the custom gamemode you would like to use on your server to that collection.

*Some gamemodes have addon requirements that you may also need to install.

2. Once that Steam Workshop collection has been created, you can add that collection to your server using this guide.
   With the Steam Workshop collection added, you're now ready to load the gamemode that you included in your collection on your server.

3. To load that custom gamemode, go on your server's control panel and click Files and then FTP File Access.

4. In your server's FTP, click to edit the garrysmod.properties file.

5. In this file, locate the gamemode= setting.

6. Add the custom gamemode's name within this setting.

For example, for the gamemode Prop Hunt Enhanced, that gamemode's name is prop_hunt.

7. After adding the gamemode name, click save file and exit your FTP.

8. Finally, click Restart on your control panel. As your server comes online, your server will load that gamemode!

Adding a Gamemode Manually through FTP

1. Begin by locating the specific Garry's Mod gamemode you would like to download.

2. Once downloaded, go on your server's control panel and click Files and then FTP File Access.

3. In your server's FTP, go to the following location: /garrysmod/garrysmod/gamemodes/

4. In the gamemodes folder, upload the gamemode files to this location.
   If the gamemode downloaded as a .zip file, upload that .zip. Once uploaded, select that .zip and at the top of your FTP, click Unzip to unzip that gamemode's files.

   You should see a folder appear for the gamemode you uploaded.

5. Now that the gamemode files are added to your server, go back to the main directory of your FTP.

6. Locate the garrysmod.properties file and click to edit this file.

7. In this file, locate the gamemode= setting.

8. Add the custom gamemode's name within this setting.
   The custom gamemode's name will be the name of the gamemode's folder that was uploaded. For example, if the gamemode folder you uploaded was named prop_hunt, you would put that name in the gamemode setting.

9. After adding the gamemode name, click save file and exit your FTP.

10. Finally, click Restart on your control panel. As your server comes online, your server will load that gamemode!

Certain gamemodes may require additional steps for installation, such as the installation of files in specific locations of your FTP or the installation of other Garry's Mod addons. We recommend that you always check a gamemode's download page to see if additional installation steps need to be taken.
